This study presents the first comprehensive checklist of the moth fauna of Loulé (Algarve, Portugal). It includes the results of two years of light trapping at multiple sites within the municipality, records obtained from larval-stage surveys and a bibliographic review of species previously reported from Loulé. As a result of the fieldwork, 706 species were identified, eleven of which represent new additions to the Portuguese checklist: Trifurcula coronillae van Nieukerken, 1990, Reisserita haasi (Rebel, 1901), Dextellia dorsilineella (Amsel, 1935), Anarsia bilbainella (Rössler, 1877), Tiranimia epidolella Chrétien, 1915, Ochrodia subdiminutella (Stainton, 1867), Coleophora afrosarda Baldizzone & Kaltenbach, 1983, Coleophora sarehma Toll, 1956, Alucita acutata Scholz & Jäckh, 1994, Bactra bactrana (Kennel, 1901) and Mesocrambus salahinellus (Chrétien, 1917). In total, considering both new and bibliographic records, 926 moth species are reported for Loulé, representing more than a third of the moth species known from mainland Portugal.

Este estudio presenta la primera lista exhaustiva de la fauna de polillas de Loulé (Algarve, Portugal). Incluye los resultados de dos años de muestreos mediante trampas de luz en múltiples localidades del municipio, registros obtenidos a partir de prospecciones en fase larvaria y una revisión bibliográfica de las especies citadas previamente para Loulé. Como resultado del trabajo de campo, se identificaron 706 especies, once de las cuales constituyen nuevas incorporaciones al catálogo de la fauna portuguesa: Trifurcula coronillae van Nieukerken, 1990; Reisserita haasi (Rebel, 1901); Dextellia dorsilineella (Amsel, 1935); Anarsia bilbainella (Rössler, 1877); Tiranimia epidolella Chrétien, 1915; Ochrodia subdiminutella (Stainton, 1867); Coleophora afrosarda Baldizzone & Kaltenbach, 1983; Coleophora sarehma Toll, 1956; Alucita acutata Scholz & Jäckh, 1994, Bactra bactrana (Kennel, 1901) y Mesocrambus salahinellus (Chrétien, 1917). En total, considerando tanto los registros nuevos como los bibliográficos, se citan 926 especies de polillas para Loulé, lo que representa más de un tercio de las especies conocidas de Portugal continental.
